My dad hardly ever talked about the war, but surprised me about 3 or 4 years ago by getting into some detail about one episode, a raid on a supply depot at St. Wendel, Germany, on Nov. 18, 1944. The 386th Bomb Group lost 6 planes in that raid, with 19 more damaged (including my dad's, which lost its nose gear). He said it was "the second worst day of the war for me". Anyway... he had received some correspondence about the St. Wendel raid and it included a list of the 386th aircraft (and their pilots) that had participated. |
