Normandy Notes

How I was involved The Result
I led an 18 plane B-26 attack on the Utah coast defense system in Normandy on June 6, 1944.

Same Day

The US First Army secures a foothold on Utah Beach.  D-Day June 6, 1944
I led an 18 plane B-26 attack on the Cherbourg Port defense system on June 22, 1944.

4 Days Later

General Von Schlieben surrenders Cherbourg.  About 40,000 prisoner were taken June 26, 1944.
I briefed a 36 plane B-26 attack as 386th Group Bombing Officer on the German Defenses at St. Lo on July 25, 1944

2 Days Later

St Lo is captured.  The US 7th Corps breaks out of Normandy on July 26th and 27th, 1944.
I led an 18 plane B-26 attack at Fliers in Normandy.  We dropped 1000 lbs. delay-action bombs across the German 7th Army Escape route through the "Falaise Gap" in Normandy on August 12, 1944.

8 Days Later

The Battle of Normandy is OVER!  50,000 Germans surrender, 40,000 escape across the Seine River with almost no equipment.  10,000 are killed trying to escape August 20, 1944.
I led one A-26 and one B-26 attack on the coast guns at Brest on Sept 6th. and Sept 14th, 1944.  Brest is an Atlantic port city in the French province of Brittany.

5 Days Later

General H.B. Ramcke surrenders the port of Brest.  38,000 prisoners were taken Sept 19. 1944.
